Wrong Side of the Bed

Tuesday I woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

I literally woke up on the wrong side of bed. I just rolled right out on Mr. Dawson's side.

The second I did so, I thought "Oh crap! That's not good."

Sure enough, not even five minutes later, I found a creepy looking spider perched on a jacket in my closet. I normally don't get creeped out by spiders, and I normally don't kill them either, but this one did it. It was about the size of quarter, with a bulbous white belly, and furry brown legs. I hurriedly moved the jacket out of the closet and beat it repeatedly with a shoe. Since the transition from closet to bathroom floor left the jacket folded in on itself, I'm still not entirely sure if I killed the spider. I did however put the jacket inside a tightly tied plastic bag just in case. I am still terrified to go inside my closet.

This was the start of a lovely day.

Work wasn't entirely bad, but it wasn't too eventful either.

The real fun happened later in the evening.

Mr. Dawson and I decided to go on a little trip to Tempe Marketplace and to fill up our water jugs on the way back. We hit up Target, the book store, and went out for dinner.

When we were about finished eating, I looked outside and noticed that it was getting dark and kind of windy. I thought we were just going to get another monsoon. Not even five minutes later I looked outside again and was shocked. It was now completely dark, super windy, and why was there dust everywhere? We were stuck in the middle of a dust storm.

And not just any dust storm, an haboob.

Just in time to be leaving the restaurant. And we were parked way on the other side of the marketplace. Great.

So we ran through it, covering our mouths and trying to shield our eyes.

We took a break halfway through to recuperate by stopping at World Market. Mostly so we could wait for the storm to settle down enough, so that we could see enough to drive home.

Sure enough it died down, and we braved driving home.

It was so eery driving down the streets hardly being able to see things ten feet in front of your car. I half expected zombies to leap out at us, it looked that much like a horror flick.

Luckily, there weren't any zombies, nor any other incidents, and we made it home safely. Covered in dirt.

Check out the haboob....

Freaky huh?

And...I just can't stop laughing over the word haboob.

Oops

Woah, long time no post. I kind of disappeared there for a while.

While I still have every intention of keeping this blog, I kind of created another one. I created it mostly to share my adventures in trying to get and stay healthy/fit. It's also about my journey in running as I train for my first half marathon (and more!). So go check it out if you're interested!

Miles and Stitches

I will still be posting here as well when I have artsy stuff to share. So stay tuned!

A Quick, Crocheted Mug Cozy

A part of the gifts I'm this Christmas is to make mug cozies. I devised a quick, crochet pattern yesterday, and I'd like to share it with everyone!

Here's what you'll need:
Some bulky yarn.
A crochet hook (I used a K).
Two buttons.
Measuring tape
One tapestry and one sewing needle.

First measure around the mug you'd like to make one for. This could even just be a disposable cup to get an estimate for a gift.

Make a chain that is about an inch longer than this measurement. (If your new to crochet, this site has some helpful diagrams and instructions)

Row 1: Sc into the 2nd stitch and repeat to the end. Ch1 and turn.
Row 2: Sc 1, Ch1, skip 2nd stitch, sc in 3rd stitch to the end. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 3: Sc to the end. Ch1 and turn.
Rows 4 and 5: Repeat rows 2 and 3. Pull yarn through and weave in the ends.

Next, sew on the buttons and slip it on your mug. Voila!

Now go enjoy yourself a hot beverage!

Meowsday

I just love watching these cats playing patty-cake!

Cat Snowman!!!

Oh, and there was some cat humor on Dexter the other night! Yes!

This cat was up there for two days before it decided to jump.

I can't get enough of these boys singing the Cat Duet. Meow.

Dawson bought me these ornaments a couple years ago for Christmas. They look like my cats, so he couldn't pass them up. And now I have a tree to hang them on! Yay! Speaking of cats and trees...

They just love to sit on the arm of the sofa and stare at it. Sometimes there is playing with ornaments involved, but its mostly just staring.

Weekly Goals

At precisely two o'clock this morning, I finally finished knitting my sister's sweater. Finally!

I hoped to get more things done yesterday, but the sweater took top priority. Pretty much all I did was knit, knit, knit and watch movies on my Netflix queue and my tv shows. Hmm. Queue is such strange word now that I think about it.

In total I watched S. Darko (which was no where near as good as Donnie Darko, but not that bad), a cute film Together, Amelie, and the new episodes of Dexter and The Walking Dead.

This week was pretty successful. A couple things will be rolling over to this week though.

Here's my goals for this week:

1. Bring my lunches/snacks to work everyday.
2. Don't buy anything unless I absolutely need it!
3. Make a header.
4. Make Christmas gifts/decorations.
5. Work on the Blog Love class.
6. Clean up the house.
7. Play the Sims. I haven't even installed the new expansion I bought a while ago.

I hope everyone has a good day!

Friday Loves

Here's some things I've been lovin' this week:

I can't stop eating stuffing! I used to hate it as a kid, but now I'm in love with it!
Finally watched Coraline with Dawson. It was good, but I will forever be haunted by the big bosomed lady barely dressed as Venus. Was that necessary? I love the cat though, of course.
Putting up and decorating my Christmas tree!
Watching the cats admire/play with/be distracted by the tree.
Candy canes :)
Gnome ornaments? Yes please.
Julmust! It's a Swedish, non-alcoholic beverage that translates into Christmas (jul) juice (must). Basically it has hops and barley in it but it isn't fermented and is more of a soda. I found it at World Market a few days ago and decided to give it a try (that and I've kinda been in love with Swedish things lately). It's delicious and I can't stop drinking it.
Actually getting out of Ikea on budget.
Lots of list making.
The Blog Love class.
Waking up early and and feeling awake.
The thought that I will actually have a weekend. Yay!

Now I'm going to try to make vegetarian Swedish meatballs for dinner and then bake lots of cookies!

Love Today!

I braved Ikea alone today. Surprisingly I met my budget of fifty dollars. Well, actually I was eighty-eight cents over, but I'll let that slide. I wrote out and revised a list before I went today and told myself to stick to it. That way I knew exactly where I needed to go and avoid things that I don't need at the moment. I was in and out within an hour! That's a first! The only things I bought that wasn't on list was a Lack side table (which I actually meant to put on my list but forgot), Gnome ornaments, and candy laces.

I also made a huge list of things to do today in my day planner. For the most part it was successful. Some of the things were just put on in case I have time, so it's okay if I do them tomorrow. I know I will probably kept procrastinating on the cleaning though....

Oh, and if you're wondering why I need so many mugs, you'll find out in a week or so.
